about

For those fortunate enough to have strolled through the cool waters of Frenchman’s Cove or have dove into the stillness of the Blue Lagoon, have definitely tasted the region’s famous spice.

Of course, we are speaking of the richness of Jamaica and the birth place of Jerk Seasoning.

Just outside of Port Antonio, Jamaica, high in the hills, over looking the most beautiful water in the world, you will discover Boston Bay. It is in a small house, when each morning, the “Pit” is prepared for the day’s feast; Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and Smoked Fish.

Fourteen different spices and Pimento wood are used for flavor and Scotch Bonnet Peppers, add the fire that is Jerk. Before 11:00am the line of locals and tourist, alike, exceeds thirty minutes.

This is the very place, that Scott Durrah, restaurateur and chef, discovered his love of this country’s famous flavor and was taught the exact technique that is known by only a few.

Named the “Best of Los Angeles” for over five years, Scott’s Italian North End, Boston, Massachusetts upbringing combined with the flavor of the islands turned his first restaurant, The Jamaican Café, into a Santa Monica favorite. Hollywood legends Michael Keaton, Woody Harrelson and others mixed with Santa Monica locals, while soft reggae and steel drums played throughout the restaurant. Add the incredible aroma of the dishes, and you have the ingredients that made this place a neighborhood favorite.

“Neighborhoods are our specialty.” states Executive Chef and Owner, Scott Durrah, “Seeing the same customers, sharing in their lives, it’s why I love being a restaurateur.”

Moving to Denver in January 2006, Chef Scott opened 8 Rivers in Historic Highland’s Square to rave reviews. In one year, his cozy Caribbean café was named Top of the Town by 5280 and in 2008 was named Best of Denver by Westword.

Intrigued by Denver’s Lower Downtown, the team of Scott Durrah and Wanda James worked to open, 8 Rivers LoDo. The Downtown location features Denver’s best rum collection, a fireplace in the lounge area and a mural of Bob Marley greets all who walk through the door.

We welcome you to Eight Rivers (Ocho Rios), and we look forward to continuing to be a neighborhood favorite!
